"Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,'Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts," Hebrews 3:7-8, NKJV.
God is speaking to us. He speaks to our hearts through the Holy Spirit. The heart refers to the mind, will and emotions. God has spoken to different people in the Bible in unusual and miraculous ways, but that's not the way He normally speaks. The voice of His Spirit speaks to our hearts. God is speaking to you. Will you listen? The choice is ours. When we refuse to listen, our hearts are hardened.
God is speaking to us through the Bible. The same Holy Spirit who inspired the writers of Scripture, is the same Holy Spirit who speaks to our hearts through the written word of God. The Spirit of God applies the word of Scripture to the circumstances of our lives.
God is speaking to us through conscience. Paul wrote,"My conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit," Romans 9:1. God had spoken to Paul in some miraculous ways, but he also understood that the Holy Spirit spoke to him through his conscience. When we ignore the Spirit communicating with our conscience, we harden our hearts to God's voice.
God is speaking to us through other people. When we hear the preaching of God's word, the Spirit of God communicates with our hearts. He may use a Bible teacher, a soul-winner, a singer or some unexpected person to communicate His word to our hearts. I heard the testimony of a man who heard Billy Graham preaching on television in a bar. His life was changed. He received Christ into his life and began preaching the gospel. God may speak to us anywhere at anytime.
God is speaking to us through Jesus Christ. God "has in these last days spoken to us by His Son," Hebrews 1:2. Jesus is the complete revelation of the person and will of God. Jesus Christ is the perfect, final word of God to all mankind. He speaks to us the truth of God. All Scripture should be interpreted in the light of what Jesus has spoken to us.
God, open my heart to hear what Your Spirit speaks to me.
