Jesus said,"I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." - John 10:10,ESV.
It is God's will that we have an abundant life. This does not mean that all of us should be wealthy in this world's goods nor have everything that we want. It means
that we have an enjoyable relationship with God. Life is relationships and the most enjoyable relationship should be one with God and his son, Jesus Christ.
What is life? It's relationship with God. Jesus made this clear in John 17:3 as he prayed to his Father. "This is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." To know God through Jesus Christ is
the abundant life. He wants us to enjoy him forever!
The abundant life is more than religion. As a matter of fact, religion can become nothing more than meaningless rituals or bondage to rules. God wants us to enjoy him! He wants us to delight in him.
The abundant life is a personal relationship with God. As the shepherd knew his sheep by name, they knew his voice and followed him. The sheep were not without a shepherd to lead them, guard them, feed them and care for them. Jesus uses this as an illustration of the abundant life in John 10.
The abundant life is a faith relationship with God. We can trust him regardless of the circumstances. After all, he is with us and knows how to lead us. Faith is trust in the Lord regardless of what comes our way. Without such faith, there can be no personal relationship with the Lord. Jesus said to religious people who had no personal relationship with him,"You do not believe because you are not part of my flock" [John 10:26].
